| Pennetta prefers the clay - the surface on which she has won two WTA titles this season - and her record at the US Open isn't much to get excited about. Last year's second round defeat was the only time she'd cleared the first hurdle in four attempts at Flushing Meadows but this time her form heading into the event is quite encouraging. The 25-year-old Italian was a runner up in Los Angeles last month and was only denied a morale-boosting triumph by the in-form Dinara Safina. Pennetta's first-round exit at the Olympics was disappointing but she'll be looking to bounce back here. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
